Shanhaiquan
The Shanhaiquan was built by the Ming dynasty in 1368 to 1644. This section is still well preserved and is in good condition. In this area of the wall it is mainly defense. The Shanhaiquan pass is known as "the first pass under heaven". With the dragon heads also known as laolongtou in the Eastern limits, about 5 miles away you can see where The Great Wall of China meets the sea, this was one of the importance for the Military. This section of the Great Wall stretches for 16 miles long.
Simatai
The Simatai was built by the Qin dynasty and they worked on it in 550 to 557 but then were rebuilt by the Ming dynasty in 1368 to 1398. The Simatai has 18 watch towers on the west and 15 watch towers on the east. Simatai gives you amazing views that will take your breath away. This part of the wall is well preserved with a good range of architecture. Every part of this section is at least 400 years old. In this area of the Great Wall hiking is testier and is particularly steep. As well as it offers a great view. The Simatai section stretches 74 miles in length.
Jiayuguan
Jiayuguan means gold; it was named after this because of the two mountains that it was built on. This part of the wall is another Ming creation and was built 1368 to 1689. This part was also rebuilt in 1567 and 1570 by Emporer Qi Jiguang. In the beginning of Jiayuguan itis in good condition but as you go eastward you find loose bricks and rocky areas. This area is a very easy area, except for the areas that have collasped. Jiayuguan is a well preserved pass that has served as a gateway of the Silk Road for centuries. It is in the Western limits of the Great Wall in Gansu Province, some of the wall has been buried by sandstorms. This part of China is were environment and culture takes place. This section stretches 77 miles long.
Badaling
Badaling means eight directions in Chinese, because of the many different mountain ridges that go in different directions thats why Badaling was given its name. This part of the wall was created by the Ming and took eight years to build. The Badaling was finished in 1505. In addition, it had 12 watch towers in the northern part and 6 towers in the southern part. The Badaling was the advanced point of the Jiauguan pass, at strategic points, back then, fortresses and beacon towers were built. At the Badaling part of the Great Wall it is 23 feet in height and 16 feet wide. The Badaling part of the Great Wall is very crowded (popular) and is located in Bejjing. This section is very well maintained and in good condition. The Badaling section of the Great Wall stretches miles in length.
